Evelyn De Morgan’s seldom seem golden drawings are considered and interpreted together as a series for the first time.

Throughout her career, Evelyn De Morgan made gold studies of her oil paintings. Using gold pigment on a dark grey or deep blue paper, she would sketch out ethereal compositions. All of the known gold drawings, which she made throughout her career, depict a full-scale oil painting. But whether these are simply elaborate and beautiful copies, or compositional preparatory studies is not fully know.

De Morgan Curator, Sarah Hardy, presents her early research on this very special collection of De Morgan drawings for the first time.
