Did you know that the De Morgan Collection is owned by a charity? It was set up in 1968 by the artist Evelyn De Morgan’s sister, Wilhelmina Stirling.

She founded the charity to care for her collection of De Morgan artworks, to ensure that it would be looked after and made available to the public to enjoy and for education. These are exactly the principles on which we still operate today.

Find out more about Wilhelmina, her collecting, and her hopes for the De Morgan Foundation in this online talk. De Morgan Curator Sarah Hardy will also reveal the ups and downs of the history of the collection and the Foundation, including how Wilhelmina preserved it through the Blitz, and the terribly sad story of destruction of some of the collection in the 1990s.

The talk will be online, on Facebook Live at 12noon on Friday 5th June.
