Study of a male torso for Evelyn De Morgans painting Boreas and Oreithyia. Evelyn De Morgan (née Pickering) 1896. Conté crayon and pastel on brown wove paper. In this study of the male torso and arm for Boreas, God of the North Wind, Evelyn pays particular attention to the figures outstretched arm, his hand reaching out in a delicately tactile manner. We see this sense of the tactile transferred to the final painting, where the figures are shown in a moment of gentle embrace as Boreass fingertips brush across Oreithyias body.
