Evelyn De Morgan travelled to Italy on numerous occasions from the early 1870s until 1914. Whilst there she visited the Academia and the Uffizi to study the work of the great Masters. This watercolour drawing was one of a series of sketches by artists such as Botticelli and Leonardo Da Vinci which Evelyn copied for the purposes of her own enjoyment and elucidation.
