Curator Tour of the De Morgan Gallery – unique gift experience
An excellent gift for anyone interested in the De Morgans, William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement, or the Pre-Raphaelites, is a tour of the De Morgan Collection with Curator, Sarah Hardy, for up to four people.
Sarah read Art History at Durham University, before specialising in Victorian Arts and Crafts for the Masters Degree she obtained from the University of Manchester. Sarah has worked at the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, The National Gallery in London and the The British Library in London, researching and publishing widely on Victorian Art. Sarah has been the Curator of the De Morgan Collection since April 2018, and is considered the world’s leading expert in William and Evelyn De Morgan’s artwork.
Sarah will take you and your guests on an hour-long tour of the De Morgan exhibition of your choice. She will comment on William De Morgan’s interest in science and mathematics, his friendship with William Morris, his techniques and unique approaches to innovative ceramic design. She will then tell you about Evelyn De Morgan, a woman who defied her gender and class to become one of the most successful female artists of her generation. But was she a Pre-Raphaelite? What are the meanings behind her colourful, wonderful paintings? Sarah will reveal all in this compelling tour.
