This is supposedly a painting of Mary De Morgan. It last came up for auction at Christie’s in 2002 when it was bought by Rachel Moss of Moss Galleries, which very sadly closed down following her death in 2010. The painting is untraced.

A high resolution image of the signature reveals a monogram which Wilhelmina Stirling claimed was a a composite of William and Evelyn’s signature.

However, drawings by William in the Foundation’s Collection reveal William was using it in 1865, 30 years before he met Evelyn, who was born in 1855! Therefore this intimate and loving portrait of Mary, must be by William De Morgan of his little sister.
