Revealing the Nude

In these reproductions of images from Evelyn's sketchbooks, we see the artist dispensing with the half-draped model of the life drawing class to examine the fully nude male in her most private examinations of the human body.

Nude life study of a male figure

Evelyn De Morgan (née Pickering)
Circa 1893

Charcoal on fawn wove paper

Whilst the Foundation owns nearly one thousand drawings by Evelyn De Morgan, very few entirely nude studies remain. This study concentrates in particular on the muscular form of the model’s arms and legs.

The drawing is signed ‘E Pickering, 5 July 1893’.
