About the De Morgan Centre Reserve Collection
Study of drapery
by Evelyn De Morgan
The Reserve Collection houses approximately 400 drawings by Evelyn
which cover her career from her student work in the 1870s through
to her death in 1919. Many of these highly finished drawings relate
to her large scale, often mythological, oils which hang in the permanent
collection. Her classical training at the Slade School of Art is
illustrated in the many studies showing the fall of drapery and
studies of hands, feet and torsos.
Other items not on display include tiles and other ceramics by
William De Morgan and lesser known paintings and drawings by Evelyn
which are exhibited from time to time.
